Ononno Resorts Limited was officially established on December 16, 2021, under the visionary leadership of Dr. Noor Mohammad, the proud owner of this remarkable mountain peak retreat. More than just a resort for tourists, Ononno Resorts was founded with a deeper purpose—to promote local culture, empower communities, and generate sustainable employment in the region.
Perched atop a mountain peak with little to no flat terrain, the resort has been thoughtfully designed to follow the natural contours of the landscape. Each structure is positioned with great care and respect for the environment, allowing the architecture to blend effortlessly with the surroundings. Realizing this vision without disturbing the terrain was a significant challenge—one embraced with dedication and precision.
Today, Ononno Resorts stands as one of Bangladesh’s most notable eco-conscious destinations. Guided by the philosophy of “less is more,” the master plan was developed with deep sensitivity to the environment and topography. Most buildings are elevated on steel stilts, minimizing disruption to the natural slopes. Landscaping was carried out with a commitment to preserve existing trees and introduce more native and ornamental plants to enrich the natural beauty of the resort.
The entire layout takes full advantage of its dramatic mountain setting, offering breathtaking panoramic views while combining the peacefulness of pristine nature with the comforts of a modern resort. Locally sourced materials—such as stone, bamboo, and wood—were used wherever possible to achieve a rustic, authentic look that complements the environment. Where local resources fell short, carefully selected materials were brought in from outside to maintain the integrity and quality of the design.
Designing and developing Ononno Resorts posed considerable challenges. There was a constant concern that construction might disturb the pristine natural beauty of the hills. To mitigate this, excavation was kept to a minimum, preserving the hill’s original shape as much as possible. The result is a resort that feels organically rooted in its surroundings, as if it has always been a part of the landscape. A nearby natural spring further enhances the resort’s serene ambiance, contributing to the eco-resort’s unique character and tranquil environment.
Dr. Noor Mohammad, the visionary behind Ononno Resorts, is the proud owner of this picturesque land. Driven by his passion and initiative, he set out to transform his property into a resort that would not only attract tourism but also celebrate the local culture, craftsmanship, and support the economic upliftment of the surrounding community.
While much of the surrounding hills have been stripped of vegetation due to years of unchecked deforestation, Ononno Resorts is uniquely located in one of the few remaining green zones. The landscaping plan has been carefully crafted to further enrich this natural setting. Indigenous trees and plants, along with selected local ornamental and flowering species, have been incorporated to enhance the area’s beauty and biodiversity.
A key feature of the design is a water body that will serve as an artificial lake. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, this lake will function as a rainwater harvesting system—storing water for use during dry periods and supporting the resort’s sustainability efforts.
Ononno Resorts offers a well-equipped restaurant that serves a variety of delicious meals throughout the day—including breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Guests can enjoy both local and international cuisine, freshly prepared with seasonal ingredients. In addition, the resort features a dedicated barbecue area, perfect for outdoor dining experiences in a serene natural setting—ideal for family gatherings, group events, or romantic evenings under the stars.
From initial planning to ongoing development, the journey of establishing Ononno Resorts has been marked by significant challenges. The resort is situated in a completely hilly region, with no flat land nearby. Preserving the natural beauty of the landscape was a top priority, which meant that the design had to be carefully adapted with minimal alteration to the existing terrain. Due to the remote location, sourcing both manpower and construction materials proved to be a major hurdle. Aside from some locally available bamboo and stone, most of the necessary materials had to be transported from Chittagong and Dhaka—an effort that was not only time-consuming but also costly. With no direct access roads, all tools and supplies had to be carried to the site manually, adding further to the expenses. As a result, construction has been slow and complex, and architectural work is still ongoing. Recruiting and retaining management staff has also been difficult, as few are willing to relocate or stay long-term in such an isolated area. Daily operations face added strain from the logistics involved in maintaining quality service. To ensure fresh and high-quality meals, most essential food items must be brought in from Chittagong every day—an effort that significantly increases operational costs.
Another major obstacle is communication. Mobile network coverage in the area is extremely poor. We continue to work with various service providers to improve connectivity, but the lack of stable Wi-Fi remains a concern. Our guests often experience dropped calls or poor-quality internet service, which can affect their stay. Until better solutions are implemented, we sincerely request our visitors’ patience and understanding.
